Google has confirmed it is working on an open source Gimp replacement.
The open source software has been under development for some time now, with Google announcing it had begun testing Gimp 3.0, the new major version of the popular open source 3D animation tool.
In December, Google announced a new version for Android would arrive in India by the end of the year.
Gimp has been used by a growing number of developers to develop their apps for Android.
The new open source version, called Gimp for Android, is expected to be launched sometime in April.
Google has been keeping the Android development community updated on the Gimp developments, but did not say when the software would be available.
The open-source version is likely to offer a number of improvements over Gimp 2, including a new UI, an improved version of its engine and a number better-looking 3D animations.
